The $29/Month Indie Maker Stack: Every Tool You Actually Need in 2026
The exact tool stack one solo founder uses to build, launch, and run a real product for $29/month. No fluff, no 14-day trials, no enterprise pricing.
Most “best tools for indie makers” articles are written by people who’ve never actually shipped a product. They list 30 tools, half of which cost $50/month each, and call it a “lean stack.”
This isn’t that article.
This is the exact stack I use to build, launch, and run SmarterTools.app — a solo project, zero employees, zero VC money. Total cost: $29/month. Everything else is free tier or pay-as-you-go.
Let’s break it down.
The Full Stack at a Glance
| Tool | Plan | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | Pro | $20/mo | Your AI co-founder |
| Vercel | Hobby | Free | Deploy your frontend |
| Supabase | Free | Free | Database + auth |
| GitHub | Free | Free | Code hosting |
| Notion | Free | Free | Docs, roadmap, notes |
| Lemon Squeezy | Free (5% + fees) | $0 upfront | Payments + global tax |
| Loops | Free | Free | Email up to 1K contacts |
| DataFa.st | Starter | $9/mo | Revenue analytics |
| Total | $29/mo |
No fluff. No “just try the 14-day trial.” These are tools that have real, usable free tiers — or, in Claude’s case, are worth every dollar of the $20.
The Tools, One by One
Claude Pro — $20/month
I debated whether to include a paid AI tool in a “cheap stack” article. Then I remembered: Claude is the reason I ship 3x faster.
Code reviews, copywriting, debugging, brainstorming pricing strategies at 11pm — Claude Pro handles all of it. For a solo maker with no team, it’s not a luxury. It’s your entire staff.
If you’re choosing between Claude Pro and any other tool on this list, choose Claude Pro.
Why not ChatGPT? Personal preference. Claude is better at long-context reasoning and code. Use what works for you — the point is: have an AI assistant, and pay for the good tier.
Vercel — Free (Hobby plan)
Zero-config deploys, instant previews, global CDN. The Hobby plan covers everything you need until you’re making real money.
The moment you hit your first $1K MRR, upgrade to Pro ($20/mo) for analytics and better limits. Until then — free.
Supabase — Free
Postgres database, authentication, file storage, edge functions — all in one. The free tier is genuinely generous: 500MB database, 1GB file storage, 50K monthly active users.
You will not outgrow the Supabase free tier before you have money to pay for Supabase Pro. That’s the point.
GitHub — Free
Nothing to explain here. Your code lives here. Free for unlimited public and private repos.
Notion — Free
Roadmap, meeting notes, product specs, user research — all in Notion. The free tier includes unlimited blocks, which removed the last reason to pay.
Use it as your second brain for the product. Don’t over-engineer it: one page for roadmap, one for ideas, one for user feedback. That’s it.

Lemon Squeezy — Free ($0 upfront, 5% + fees per transaction)
This one surprises people. Lemon Squeezy is a Merchant of Record — meaning they handle payments, VAT, sales tax, and compliance in every country for you.
As a solo maker, you do not want to deal with EU VAT, Australian GST, or US state taxes. Lemon Squeezy takes 5% + payment fees and makes all of that disappear.
Yes, Stripe is cheaper at scale. But at zero revenue, Lemon Squeezy costs you exactly $0. Switch to Stripe when the 5% actually hurts.
Loops — Free (up to 1,000 contacts)
The best-kept secret in indie maker tooling. Loops is built specifically for SaaS founders — transactional emails, onboarding sequences, newsletters, all in one clean interface.
The free tier covers 1,000 contacts. By the time you hit that limit, you’ll have revenue to pay for Loops Pro ($29/mo). Perfect bootstrapper logic.
DataFa.st — $9/month
Most analytics tools show you pageviews. DataFa.st shows you which marketing channel brought you paying customers.
Built by Marc Lou (who has shipped 24+ products and earned $2M+ online), it connects directly to Lemon Squeezy and shows you revenue per visitor by source. That’s the metric that actually matters.
At $9/month, it’s the best $9 you’ll spend after Claude Pro.
What’s Missing (On Purpose)
No project management tool. Notion handles this fine at the solo stage. Linear is great, but unnecessary before you have a team or complex sprints.
No design tool. If you need design, Figma free tier is excellent. It’s not in the core stack because not every maker needs it daily.
No customer support tool. At early stage, handle support via email. When you’re drowning in tickets, add Crisp or Intercom. Not before.
No SEO tool. Google Search Console is free and sufficient to start. Ahrefs at $129/mo is for when SEO is your primary acquisition channel.
The Upgrade Path
This stack grows with you:
At $1K MRR — Add Linear Standard ($8/mo) for proper issue tracking. Upgrade Loops to Pro ($29/mo) if you’ve hit 1K contacts. New total: ~$66/mo.
At $5K MRR — Upgrade Supabase to Pro ($25/mo) for daily backups and better performance. Add Vercel Pro ($20/mo). New total: ~$111/mo.
At $10K MRR — You’re a real business now. Add Sentry for error monitoring, upgrade your email tool, consider Ahrefs for SEO. Budget $200-300/mo. Still cheaper than one SaaS enterprise seat.
The Bottom Line
You don’t need a $500/month tool stack to build a successful indie product. You need:
- An AI assistant that multiplies your output (Claude Pro)
- Reliable infrastructure that won’t fight you (Vercel + Supabase)
- A way to get paid without tax headaches (Lemon Squeezy)
- Analytics that show you what’s actually working (DataFa.st)
- Email for your users (Loops)
Everything else can wait until you have revenue to justify it.
Total: $29/month. Go build something.
